The River Mission:

“The River Mission is a combined spiritual retreat and mission outreach. 20 attendees made up of young people from across the Churches of Warrington and Youth for Christ team came together to learn, experience and communicate with Father, Son and Holy Spirit (all three persons of the Godhead) to better equip us to reach out with God’s love within a local community.

On the first day we focused on the person and work of Jesus and how we personally relate to Him and understand His work and mission on earth. We saw that He came to serve, not to be served. We looked at this in-depth and it was from here that we formed three teams and carried out a serving project within the local community of Birchwood. Our team painted an elderly lady’s fences and blessed her in this way. Other teams did similar things too, just to show that part of God’s love is to serve.

The second day was all about the Father Heart of God and how He loves us unconditionally. Teaching based on the Prodigal Son enabled us to visualize just how much that love extends. From this our teams went out once more into the local community to show that love, through acts of kindness to people we came across. We gave away free sweets, hugs, drinks and other items with the message that God loves them!

The final day was based on the person and work of The Holy Spirit and how we can be led and sent out by Him. We learned how He sensitively leads people to Jesus and how He likes to use us to join with Him in doing that. Each team went out to connect with people in the local community and share with them the things we felt the Holy Spirit wanted to say to them. Passages from the Bible were shared to encourage them as well as encouraging words of love we perceived The Holy Spirit wanted to make known to them.

The feedback was encouraging from both staff and young people. We all experienced God’s presence with us and grew together as we worshiped, served and loved. This is what His mission is all about!”
