“Last month, I stood in front of a Year 7 form group and said to them; “If I were to ask God what He thinks of you, what do you think He would say?” … Four young people put their hands up to answer.
The first one said, “He would tell you I’m going straight to hell.”
The second said “He’d want to know why I’m good in school when I’m a demon at home!”
The two remaining young people both said that God would describe them as annoying.
In that moment, I was so grateful and humbled that God gave me the opportunity to stand in front of those young people and challenge the lies that they believe about themselves. That God is not annoyed by them and that there is hope for them. Not one of them described themselves as loved and treasured by God, so to be able to stand there and tell them that each and everyone of us is loved unconditionally in spite of our imperfections was such a privilege.
Every Tuesday, I lead morning devotions for different form groups in Boteler where I get to ask these questions, hear what young people think, and then share passages from the Bible with them about who God truly is and what He really thinks. I thank God that, when we speak His word, He is powerfully at work on the hearts and minds of those who hear it. I am so excited to see how He will continue to move in the lives of these young people.”
